Corporations often organize internal corporate venturing (ICV) units to engage in explorative activities. Previous research argues that senior executives organize such units by imposing control over venturing activities to ensure performance, while also eliciting playfulness to foster intrapreneurial behavior. Against this background, our study shows that emotions stemming from engagement in venturing activities may play a disruptive role in organizing ICV. Our study contributes to the emerging stream of research that explores the role of emotions in internal corporate venturing by revealing how emotional dynamics can shape emerging organizational structures that could shape the success of venturing processes and outcomes © 2025 Academy of Management.
